Blue Earth County | Ponderosa Landfill Recycling and Customer Service Building Now Open for Public Use

BLUE EARTH COUNTY—The new Recycling Building at the Ponderosa Landfill in Blue Earth County opened this week. It was announced open for the public to use on June 27 and the customer service center is now open as well.

Blue Earth County stated in a recent news release posted on Mankato's Zoom Village that the goals of this new facility are to improve safety and make convenience a priority to residents in the county who use the Ponderosa Landfill for their recycling. Residents, and some businesses with small loads, can drop off recycling materials so they don't have to drive all the way out there to the waste site where commercial garbage and other waste trucks haul refuse. The building is modernized with a scalehouse office and other areas.

Scott Fichtner is the Blue Earth County Environmental Service Director. He said the project has been in the works for several years and county staff and officials are excited to have it open finally. He noted it was a much needed safety and convenience improvement for local customers using the service and that recycling materials rather than filling up landfill space is also a concern.

The project cost more than $2 million. The county keeps relevant information available on its website. You can also use the site to get directions to the Ponderosa Landfill if you have never been there or used the service before.
